Job Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for making independent buying decisions that directly affect inventory and material costs and indirectly affect Gross Profit percentage and inventory turns. The position also provides market information to Sales Management and gives direction on vendor capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for acquisition of materials, supplies, and services based on monthly commitments with vendors.
  • Buy out stock as needed to fill holes in between mill purchases/arrivals
  • Responsible for direct management and training of Product group staff
  • Enter mill purchase orders monthly, update pricing, and track deliveries with vendors
  • Enter shop orders as needed
  • Research sales records and inventory levels of current stock, find foreign and domestic suppliers, and stay current on any changes in either the supply of, or demand for needed products and materials.
  • Work on quotes from sales to provide competitive cost and lead time to secure additional business
  • Stay in tune with market conditions and ask vendors for feedback to share with the company
  • Ensure company inventory is maintained in accordance to company policies.
  • Be aware of what vendors have in depots to be able to source quickly as needed
  • Maintain Price Pages in all responsible products.
  • Responsible for filing and resolving mill claims in a timely manner within vendor claims policy timeframes
  • Manage scrap for Norcross, GA and sell as needed
  • Track market information weekly and monthly. Includes, but not limited to, broker pricing, monthly/daily sales, and provide replacement information monthly.
